When do I use LMC instead of MMC on a position tolerance?

When what you are protecting is material rather than clearance. LMC gives bonus tolerance as the feature moves toward its least material condition, which is what keeps a wall from going thin.

MMC is the assembly case and it is the one everybody meets first: the hole is smallest, the pin needs the room, and bonus appears as the hole opens. LMC is the opposite concern. A boss near an edge, a hole close to a wall, a bore in a casting with a minimum section to hold: there the dangerous condition is the feature at its largest, and the tolerance should relax as it shrinks.

Using MMC where the requirement is wall thickness gives bonus tolerance in exactly the direction that eats the wall, and the parts it accepts are the ones that break. Both frames are legal, both look ordinary, and the checker will pass either.
